Mother and Child Projects Around the World
It is a long-standing tradition for the Swiss Red Cross (SRC) to organise a charity gala event in support of international cooperation projects. The theme “A mother’s health, a child’s future” was chosen for the Ball 2021 with a focus on vulnerable women and children in isolated regions. The SRC runs projects to improve basic healthcare for mother and children in Togo, Ghana, Malawi, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Laos.
Charity Programmes in Geneva
The Geneva Red Cross is carrying out local programmes to help single mothers and their children living in Geneva under precarious conditions. In particular, the Geneva Red Cross implements three programmes dedicated to vulnerable mothers and children.
- The aim of the 1st programme is to support vulnerable people through a daily social welcome centre and by orientating them within the Geneva socio-sanitary network.
- The 2nd programme is dedicated to the professional integration of women and includes professional training in order to allow them to achieve financial autonomy.
- And the 3rd programme offers tools to ensure educational success and integration for children with a migration background.
A special night, CHF 783,800 raised !
This 18th charity gala was attended by over 400 guests, including many celebrities. The evening’s programme featured an haute couture and haute joaillerie fashion show, created in collaboration between the Italian designer Antonio Riva and the prestigious Maison Chopard. More than CHF 783,000 of donations were raised from the traditional live and silent auctions as well as from the first sale of the “Boxes of Hope”, all featuring lots generously donated by local sponsors.
The Swiss Red Cross ambassador Mélanie Freymond hosted the Ball. Several musical and artistic interludes delighted the guests throughout the evening, such as an aerial performance and live music. The guests enjoyed an exclusive gastronomical dinner composed by the Michelin-starred Chef Thierry Marx, who runs the Sur Mesure restaurant in Paris. He prepared this exceptional menu in collaboration with the experienced team from Geneva’s Mandarin Oriental. Finally, the star of the international electro circuit Bob Sinclar brought ball guests out on to the dancefloor to round off the evening.
