Journey To Armenia
It is a long-standing tradition for the SRC to organize a charity gala event in support of international cooperation projects. The theme ‘Helping the ones left behind’ was chosen for the Ball 2019 with a focus on poor elderly people in Armenia.
To find out more about the SRC’s work and meet the beneficiaries in person, the members of the Geneva organizing committee travelled to Armenia in May 2019. Accompanied by the on-site team, they were able to meet the local teams as well as beneficiaries. More information will follow.
Charity programmes in Geneva
The Geneva Red Cross is carrying out local programmes to help the elderly living in Geneva under precarious conditions and often socially isolated. In praticular the Geneva Red Cross implements three programmes dedicated to elderly people.
- The aim of the 1st programme Seniors from here and elsewhere is to promote contacts and improve their well-being and integration into mainstream society.
- The 2nd programme Me, a senior includes training for the younger generations to make them more aware of the difficulties faced by older generations and to promote intergenerational solidarity.
- And the 3rd programme run by the Centre for Cultural Integration offers tools to make life easier for the older generations.
A special night, CHF 1,000,000 raised !
This 17th charity gala was attended by over 500 guests, including many celebrities. The evening’s programme featured a fashion show, the Swiss première of the new joint collection by designer Stéphane Rolland and Geneva jeweler Boghossian, who is of Armenian origin. A record CHF 1,000,000 (CHF 795,000 in 2018) was raised from the live and silent auctions and of course the grand tombola, all featuring lots generously donated by local sponsors.
Mélanie Freymond and David Cuñado hosted the Ball. Choral societies from Veyrier and Eaux-Vives, featuring children and seniors especially for this occasion, delighted the guests with one of Charles Aznavour’s beautiful songs, under the baton of Franz Josefovski. The guests enjoyed a gastronomical dinner composed by Chef Julia Sedefdjian, with dishes inspired by her Armenian and French origins. The youngest starred chef in France, who runs Le Baieta in Paris, prepared this exceptional menu in collaboration with the experienced team from Geneva’s Mandarin Oriental. Finally, DJ Bob Sinclar, star of the international electro circuit, brought ball guests out on to the dance floor to round off the evening.
